When I am filled with cares, your comfort brings me joy. (Psalm 94:19 HCSB)

When I was a girl, every summer we visited my grandparents in northern Florida on the Apalachicola River. The closer we got to their house, the louder the cicadas sang and the thicker the humidity became. The sky was as black as the river that ran behind their house. On those sticky summer nights, to a little girl, it just seemed like there was only vast emptiness ahead of us.

In the vast darkness, our headlights seemed to be the only lights around. But, once we got close to Granddaddy’s house, we could see a tiny light blinking in the distance.

Granddaddy would always leave the porch light on and when we saw the porch light, we knew we were almost there.

His light helped us navigate the dark and it assured us we would be home soon.
When I am filled with cares, Your comfort brings me joy.
[Click to Tweet]
That’s what God’s Word is like for us, too. It is light. Eugene Peterson put it this way — by Your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path. ”(Psalm 119:105 MSG)

Just like Granddaddy’s porch light guided and reassured us, God’s Light – His Word — helps us navigate the dark and affirms we are almost home.

God daily helps me navigate the dark of blindness and I shared about some of the ways He does that in my first book, Lessons I Learned in the Dark. In honor of Blindness Awareness Month, you can buy the book and/or audio book for 40% off in our online store through October 23.

As we travel this life, there are some long roads and dark places we go through. We can get road-weary. When all we can see is darkness, we can get confused and disoriented. As we make our way toward heaven and our eternal home with our Father God, there are days (and nights) when the road seems long, and we just need some comfort.

God’s light—His Word—helps us navigate the dark and affirms we are almost Home.

That’s when we open the pages of the Word of God, and catch a glimpse of Home… a tiny light twinkling in the darkness.

If your road feels long and you’re short on hope, God’s Word is the light you need to focus on. It is the light that will guide you, assure you, encourage you, and comfort you.

Here are three comforts from the Bible that will light your journey:

1. You are not alone.

Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:20 NIV)

Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5 NIV)

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast. (Psalm 139:9,10 NIV)

2. This won’t last forever.

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever. (Isaiah 40:8 NIV)

The Bible is the Light that will guide you, assure you, encourage you and comfort you. [Click to Tweet]
