When you face the storms of life, do you ever ask, “God, don’t you care?” If so, you’re not alone, sister. Jesus’ disciples asked Him the very same thing!

What God doesn’t save you from, He will see you through. [Click to Tweet]

You may remember the story. It happened on the Sea of Galilee during what Matthew 8:23-25 describes as a “furious storm” where “the waves swept over the boat.” He writes that the disciples cried, “Save us, we’re going to drown!” Mark also describes what happened, telling us that the disciples asked Jesus, “Teacher, do you not care that we are going to die?” (Mark 4:38).

Why did they question whether Jesus cared?

It was because Jesus was sleeping—right in the middle of the storm! The disciples panicked and let the storm dictate their reaction, rather than their Savior.

Here are three truths you can preach to your soul when life is crazy and you’re tempted to panic. [Click to Tweet]

Friend, sometimes you and I do the same thing, don’t we? But you don’t have to panic when life goes crazy. You can discover how to base your response on the life of Jesus within you, not on the circumstances around you.

On this episode of the 4:13 Podcast, you’ll learn to ask yourself the same question Jesus asked His disciples: Why are you afraid? Plus, you’ll hear three truths you can preach to your soul when the storm is crazy around you.

3 Truths You Can Preach to Your Soul So You Won’t Panic

Jesus is more powerful than this storm. You can rest and not panic when you acknowledge that God has authority and power over whatever storm you face. Even if it looks like chaos, God’s superior over it. It can’t exist one second longer than He allows. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” We often take that as a mandate to rest before God. But, in context, it’s an announcement to the enemies of God: Be still. Notice who’s in charge. It’s not you.

When you grasp that you don’t have the power to squash armies, eradicate viruses, and calm storms, you can relax. God’s the one who is so powerful that He can do all of those things. He’s more powerful than any force of man or nature (Psalm 46:7-10).

Jesus gives peace in this storm. You may be busy bailing water from the boat when instead you could be resting in Christ. That day on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus spoke peace to the storm. He said, “Peace be still,” and the wind and the waves obeyed Him (Mark 4:39). He speaks peace to you too.

John 16:33 says, “Jesus said, ‘These things I have spoken to you so that in me you will have peace. In the world you will have trouble but be of good courage for I have overcome the world.” In this verse, Jesus says that peace is “in” Him. So, to really have His peace, you find it in Him and His words.

One way to do this is to find one verse that you can go to when the panic starts to rise. Then, preach it to your soul. I use my Dwell Bible app for this. It has a function called “Dwell mode,” where I can program it to repeat one verse or one passage over and over. If you want to learn more about the app, go to 413podcast.com/dwell.

Jesus is present in this storm. It’s true you can’t see your future, the disciples couldn’t. But they could see Jesus in the boat with them. And, you can see God in your present situation too. He’s with you.

Psalm 46:1-3 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. Though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” God is present, right now, in your storm.

The disciples in the boat got to the other side of the lake. You will get to the other side of this virus crisis, your health situation, your financial disaster—whatever it is—you’ll get through it.

And while you’re in it, you can preach these three truths to your soul. You may need to replace the word storm with whatever is causing you to panic.

Jesus is more powerful than this virus.

Jesus gives me peace in this virus.

Jesus is present in this virus.

Or …

Jesus is more powerful than this cancer.

Jesus gives me peace in this divorce.

Jesus is present in this uncertainty, this pain, this loss.

God’s got you, and He’s got this storm. So, remember, whatever you’re feeling right now, no matter how big the problem or heavy the burden, you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.
