Do you need some guidance as you enter this new year? How about wisdom and peace? Well, I’ve got great news! They are yours for the taking!

Here’s what I mean.

You can easily find a million good reasons to read Scripture this year. But I’ve discovered three reasons that are especially good because each one is a promise. And each promise meets needs we all have, now and throughout the year. That’s right – the needs for guidance, wisdom, and peace.

So, here are three biblical reasons you will want to read Scripture this year. And at the end, I share some of my favorite apps to help you do just that. (Oh, and you’ll find a fun giveaway at the end!)

Okay, here we go!

Scripture Guides Your Steps

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105 NIV

Most Americans walk about 5,117 steps a day. That’s a whole lot of shoes padding along the pavement! And, with each step we take, there is a goal, a reason, a destination, right? Even if it’s just a quick jaunt to the fridge, every step has a purpose.

In a much larger sense, all of us have thousands of steps before us this year. We are going somewhere. We all want to be on the right path, making the choices that will take us in the right direction. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a perfect GPS for every step?

When we are in His Word, we are in His will.[Click to Tweet]

Scripture can be our GPS! God’s Word can be the guide we need. It illuminates our path; it sheds light on our decisions.

It’s full of practical to-dos — and some practical what-not-to-dos also! The beautiful thing about reading and applying Scripture is that when you’re in His Word, you will be in His will. So, if you need guidance this year, open your Bible and let it lead you.

Since we’re talking about the Bible, I’d love to share my 66 Ways God Loves You book with you. In it, I go through every book of the Bible, helping you understand how each book speaks to God’s great love for you. Learn more here.

Scripture Makes You Wise

The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130 NIV

The fact that you’re reading this blog right now proves something about you. You want to know and you want to grow.

Information, truth, and practical wisdom matter to you. Way to go! Me, too! And, the Bible promises us that when we are in His Word, we will have His wisdom.

When we are in His word, we will have His wisdom.[Click to Tweet]

Wisdom is the ability to apply knowledge, to be prudent and insightful. Oh, girl, who doesn’t want…need…that?! Being in God’s Word makes even the simple-minded wise.

Scripture Brings You Peace

Those who love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble. Psalm 119: 165 NASB

When we love God’s Word, we have peace. And, when we have spiritual peace, circumstances can’t shake us up and steal it.

Now, if there is anything this world needs, it is peace. And, it seems to be in short supply.

But, not if we’re reading and meditating on Scripture! When we are in His Word, we aren’t so focused on this world and its chaos. When we are in His word, we are in His presence and where He is, there is peace.

When we focus on His Word, we won’t fret about this world.[Click to Tweet]

Guidance, wisdom, and peace — now that is the trifecta for a good year! So, if you want any of that good stuff, if you need any of it, well, then open His Word. And open your heart to what it says. And then you, my friend, are off to a great year!

P.S. There are so many great ways to meditate on Scripture throughout the day. Here are some user-friendly Bible apps to make being in God’s Word easier:

First 5 (Proverbs 31 Ministries)
