Peace, Where Are You?

Is your life crazy or stressful?

Okay, okay, I heard you all the way from here! I know it is.

Most people have crazy, busy, and stressful lives. And, if you are like me, just the sound of the word “peace” can spike your blood pressure. You want it, but it feels so unattainable. But, it’s not.

Peace isn’t a circumstance, it’s a choice.

You can have it if you want it… even in the midst of your busy and stressful life. And, the good news is that your choice toward peace can change your level of stress and reduce the craziness.

Here are two choices you can make to have a peaceful day:

1. Be present where you are… don’t worry.

Today is the only day you can attend to. You are here right now, in the present. You can’t get to tomorrow until today is done. That’s why you must choose to be present where you are.

Fully attend to today… its joys, its struggles, its challenges.

If you focus on what may happen tomorrow, you will have no peace. If you focus on what happened in the past, you will have no peace. But, if you fully live in the present, you will have peace.

Why is that?

Fully attend to today… its joys, struggles, and challenges.

Because God is present in the present. He is a very present help in times of trouble (or stress, or craziness.) And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is peace. (2 Corinthians 3:17)

2.  Be content with who you are… don’t wish or whine.

Wishing you were different, or whining about your life, are ways to ensure you will have no peace.

On the other hand…

Embracing who you are will allow you to settle in to the person you were made to be.

When we fight against our own souls by scolding or scorning ourselves, we live with a tension that we create.

Embracing who you are will allow you to settle in to the person you were made to be.

Sure, I wish I didn’t have a double chin. And, of course, I would rather not be blind. But, that’s me! And, if I can’t change it, I need to get content with it! Now, I’m not talking about overlooking sin or any other thing about us that is harmful to ourselves, or others. I’m just referring to getting content with the us God created — the flawed, imperfect, perfectly lovable us!

Life is a lot less stressful when you quit being mad at yourself and stop wishing you were more like someone else!! After all, you are God’s workmanship. (Ephesians 2:10)

Your day… your life will become more peaceful when you make peace with the person you spend all your time with… YOU!

So, if you’re ready to trade in a little of your stress and craziness for peace, stop right now, take a deep breath, and smile — get present where you are and content with who you are!
