She had just shared a story that brought us all to tears, and now we sat on the edge of our seats waiting for the lyrics to begin. But … they didn’t. I noticed Laura was playing the introduction again, and it was lasting a little longer than usual.

And then Laura began to sing. She sang just a few words, stuttered, hesitated, and then stopped and announced, “I forgot the words! I wrote the song … and I can’t remember the words!”

Laura pulled out her phone and Googled her own song so she could read the lyrics!

Finally, after lots of friendly laughter—and eventually borrowing a phone that would connect to the internet—Laura began to sing. Her words were beautiful as she sang…

Breath of God, steady my soul
In the hour when I feel alone
I will lift weary eyes to You, oh Lord

And the whole audience relaxed into each word.

Laura kept it real, and it made the truths she shared that day become real to each woman who attended, including me.

In fact, “keeping it real” is how I would describe the whole wonderful day of FGF Woodbridge!

Shaun Groves led us in worship, guided us through a great conversation during our “Spill the Beans” segment, and then shared the most compelling story—inviting us all to release kids from poverty in Jesus’ name.

I taught out of John 5 and Luke 2, and together we explored what it means to be a “She Can” woman—one who really lives out Philippians 4:13.

I love that Fresh Grounded Faith is the real thing! No foo foo and no fake. It’s just a bunch of real women getting real hope from a real God! And He made a real impact on the hearts of those who attended.

We celebrated a new sister in Christ, 19 women who chose to renew their commitments to Christ, and 46 children rescued from poverty through Compassion International! Thank you, Lord!

And a huge thanks to Katie Harding and all of the amazing churches of the NorthStar Women’s Network for inviting Fresh Grounded Faith to partner with you for such a great event.
