Rich Generosity in Hattiesburg – FGF Highlights, Hattiesburg, MS

Fresh Grounded Faith Hattiesburg is a wrap, and what a weekend it was! I am paraphrasing what Paul said about the Macedonian Christians in 2 Corinthians 8:1-2 to describe the women in Hattiesburg:

“Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in His kindness has done through the churches in Hattiesburg … they are filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity.” (My paraphrase of NLT)

Yep, rich generosity describes them perfectly!

I first experienced it with a giant gift basket full of all sorts of Mississippi fun! Mississippi is “The Hospitality State,” and these women proved it was true. Each gift basket—for me and our FGF guests—was filled with goodies all contributed by each of the co-host churches. It was generous for sure.

Then there were the volunteers! I can’t say enough about all of the wonderful volunteers who gave and gave and were certainly overflowing with joy. That joy filled the sanctuary at our host church, Temple Baptist Church, throughout the entire conference.

And our joy only increased when we came together to sing praises to God.

When Meredith Andrews led us in worship, her hubby, Jacob Sooter, played the keyboard and sang along with her. Wow … just wow! When they sang, “What He’s Done,” I was undone! It was so stirring.

Then Angela Thomas Pharr took the stage and took us higher in our faith. We learned about setting aside sin and weights and moving forward with endurance. It was so good, and that woman is hilarious! I love partnering with both Angela and Meredith.

I taught from the book of Amos and shared how we can live faithful, humble, and assured. We were reminded to be women who carry Christ’s mission—not just consume His message.

And one woman who did so well at carrying Christ’s mission was our Local Conference Coordinator, Myra Hartel. Myra led those amazing women and managed all the moving parts so beautifully. Between Myra and her team, the many co-host churches who joined in, and all of the volunteers who served so selflessly, it was a beautiful picture of the body of Christ.

The pastors from Temple Baptist Church were also there and served the women so graciously. I was moved by their rich generosity. As full as their weekends are, they gave their time and full support to all the women who were seeking to share the heart of Christ with their community.

And, my friend, as the heart of Christ was displayed, the hearts of women were touched!

God did wonderful things in Hattiesburg as we celebrated 6 new sisters in Christ, 61 women who chose to renew their commitment to the Lord, and 53 children sponsored through Compassion International. Praise the Lord!

Now do you see why I’m overflowing with joy over what God did in Hattiesburg?

His rich generosity overflowed from the women in abundance, and it’s a testament to how He’s working in us, through us, and beyond what we could ever see.

Blessings,

Jennifer and the FGF Team!
